He Who Has An Ear, Let Him Hear What The Spirit Says

The desire of my heart in writing this blog is first, that the thoughts that spur the subject of them would come from the leading of the Holy Spirit of God. A close second is that what I write would cause non believers or half hearted Christians to realize that God is Very Very Real and you can know it. He wants us to know that He is aware of each and every thing that happens in our life. This post will be short because it’s only to say that I believe that my last post, a couple days ago focused on our need to “hear” God’s voice to direct our path in life. Without the “hearing” it’s hard to know how to “follow” our Lord and Savior.

Before we can consistently be lead by God’s Spirit we need to surrender our will to be second in importance to God’s will for our life. Telling, asking and praying to God to lead us in the way we should go is a way of telling Him, “I willingly surrender my will to Yours, please let me hear Your voice and be lead by you.”

I listen to Pastor Carter Conlon of Times Square Church regularly. Not every week but fairly often. Tonight I decided to listen to what he preached about Sunday morning December 1, 2019. The title of his message was “Yielding To The Spirit of God.” It’s focus was about the need for us to “wait” on God and not feel the need to stay busy all the time, even in things for God. The “waiting” on God brings with it an expectancy of hearing and being lead by God to do the things He would have us do according to His Will. This is the sermon,

As I listened to his sermon I thought how it was a little along the lines of my last text and maybe it was a little confirmation that this subject is what God wants His children to learn of and put into practise. At the end of Pastor Conlon’s sermon he really nailed it to our need to “hear” from the Spirit of God as he spoke of the words Jesus spoke to the churches in the first chapters of the Book of Revelation,

Revelation 2:7 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” ’

8 times in the Book of Revelation Jesus uses that phrase to tell us to open up and tune in our “spiritual ears” to hear what God wants us to see, understand and do for such a time as this. There are times when God has impressed a thought strongly in my mind in answering a question I asked. More often though, it’s only after I have done something or said something that I look back and realize that perhaps my actions were the result of God’s influence on my thinking. As awesome an idea as that is to consider that I had been of some use to accomplish a desire of God’s Heart, it shouldn’t be surprising. If God can speak through a donkey to make His thoughts known, surely He can use any human that has a heartfelt desire to be of service to Him.

My Dad was a pastor for many years and he often told me that if you listen to different pastors messages that were preached on the same day or near that day, a common undeniable thread will show that God had lead their thoughts. We serve an awesome God.
